The Balin Pleasure is a great seal stone for novice carvers to use since it is softer than many other seal stones. However, the stone is still firm enough to be easy to work with and maintain after you’ve made your carving.

Though many beginners will find this stone useful, that by no means implies it is sub-par. Balin seal stone is known as one of the four best seal stones in China. Furthermore, this stone is comprised of beautiful shades of brown that fade from nearly white to the dark hues of the color that make up most of the stone.

The shape of the stone is designed to contour to your hand as you’re carving to make your first practices comfortable, and will continue to provide this comfort even after you’re etching is complete. At that point you can use the stone as a stamp, to dip in seal paste and apply your unique identifier to each piece of art work you make as your own signature, just as Chinese artists have done since ancient times.
