This stick is made of oil soot which is the soot produced from animal oil. It is produced in Anhui, which is famous for its production of calligraphy related products, though this stick is effectively used for Sumi-e painting as well. It creates a unique effect for both art forms because it does not stick to the brush when dipping the ink. Compared to other ink sticks, this stick is very easy to grind and paint with which makes it a favorite to many Chinese brush artists.
